Dear Children’s Center Families, Staff, and Congregants of Edmonds UMC,
This has marked my 18th year of working at The Children’s Center!
We have now reached the 3-month point, where the refugee resettlement agency case manager “closes the case.” However, our Circle of Welcome commitment extends for another 9 months (at least). This report is comprehensive and extensive – and intended to give a holistic picture of multiple aspects of the refugee resettlement ministry. The whole picture is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. If you don’t care to read all the details, you can scroll through to view the photos! A review from our refugee resettlement training…Three months is a good stopping point to reflect on the cultural adjustment curve.
We are used to referring to the Sanctuary is the room in our church in which we worship, but the word “sanctuary” has a long tradition and an alternate meaning within the church. For centuries, churches have also been considered to be “sanctuaries” for those fleeing persecution: universally respected, holy places that are apart from the powers of this world, where the vulnerable can seek refuge.
