What To Expect...

What to Wear

You’ll find a wide range of styles at worship from jeans to suits for men and jeans/slacks to dresses for women. Don’t worry about what you wear because the main thing is that you are here! Be comfortable and ready to worship.

Holy Communion

Holy Communion is typically offered on the first Sunday of each month and on other special occasions such as Maundy Thursday. In the United Methodist Church, communion is open to any and all who wish to participate. We go forward to the front of the church and receive the bread and cup from one of our pastors or lay people. We use grape juice so that all may participate. We also offer a choice of gluten-free bread and cup for those who have wheat intolerance.

Church Tours

The tour is given after the second service on the second Sunday of the month. While on the tour you will learn about the different programs and ministries that our church is involved in and where they are located within the building. Meet at the Visitor Information Desk in the Entry Hall at approximately 11:45am. The tour lasts about 30 minutes.

Safe Church Policy

EUMC's safe-church policy states that: No fewer than two adults (unrelated to one another) will be present at all times during any church-sponsored program, event, or ministry involving Children, Youth & Vulnerable Adults (CYVA), including overnight trips, off premises activities or group gatherings. With this ratio of adults to Youth: 5th-8th grades -2 adults for 1st 14 youth (1 for every next 7) and Youth 9th-12th grades - 2 adults for 1st 16 youth (1 for every next 8). And with parental permission, two adults are required to be present when traveling with youth in a car or van.

Methodist History & Membership

Our History

Our History
Edmonds has been served by Methodists since the early 20th century. A retired Methodist minister organized a Sunday School in 1908. This led to the establishment of the Edmonds Episcopal Methodist Church on February 20, 1909. Seventeen people became charter members and their names were written in the record book. The congregation grew and was in need of more space for the church located at Fifth and Dayton. In 1924 construction of a new church building was completed as a memorial to honor Bishop Mathew S. Hughes. The Hughes Memorial Methodist Church had the appearance of an old mission-style building and its’ distinctive appearance made it a landmark in Edmonds. Growth continued and in the 1950’s it became apparent that additional space was again needed. This required the congregation to consider their options and a decision was made to obtain property at Eighth and Caspers Street. On November 1, 1959 the first worship service was held in the new facility. Since then, additions and remodels have been made to meet changing needs as we continue to serve our community.

About Methodism

About Methodism- John Wesley and the early Methodists were particularly concerned about inviting people to experience God’s grace and to grow in their knowledge and love of God through disciplined Christian living. They placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today. We invite you to learn more about our rich theological heritage.

Uniquely Methodist

The United Methodist Church is one of the mainline Protestant churches. The church recommends using four criteria for evaluating a situation: scripture, reason, tradition and personal experience. The theological spectrum within the denomination is very wide. Edmonds United Methodist Church is a church that is open-hearted, intellectually stimulating, and actively engaged in service to others. We are a community of faith that loves children, music, good preaching, shared meals, and people from all walks of life
