Immigrants Among Us

A summer series of friendly, informal talks to get to know the stories of our own brothers and sisters who are immigrants in our church community.

All talks will be held from 12:00-1:00p.m. Refreshments will not be provided, but you are welcome to bring your coffee or a brown bag lunch. Sponsored by the Immigration Team.

 

Fuentes Family


 

Sunday, July 22 - Clarissa Youngblood Fuentes
Clarissa was born in rural western North Carolina but has a deep love and connection with all things Latinx.  She has a passion for Latin American concerns as shaped by their interaction with US policy and intervention and has lived and worked in Guatemala.

Sunday, July 22  - Andres Fuentes
Andrés migrated from northern Mexico as a young adult. He met his wife in Dallas and together they have traveled the world.  They always return to the place of his roots however and enjoy watching their son flourish in and appreciate Mexican culture.

Sunday, August 5 – Josefina Bautista Lopez
Josefina was born into a large family in Oaxaca, Mexico. She was forced to seek employment in the city at a very young age due to her family’s extreme poverty. She came to the United States as a young woman and has struggled to live and raise a family here.

 Carlos


 

Sunday, August 19 - Carlos Arguelles
Carlos was born in Argentina and came to the United States at age 15 with his family. He is married with two children and lives in Edmonds. He is a Principal Engineer at Amazon and is a fan of traveling the world. He is passionate about immigration issues.
Perry Sunday, September 9 - Andy Perry and Kassie Goforth
Andy and Kassie have been foster parents through Lutheran Community Services’ Unaccompanied Minors program and foster-to-adopt program. They will discuss their experience fostering immigrant and local children. They will be joined by Laurie Hardie of Lutheran Community Services. Families interested in fostering either immigrant or local children, please plan to attend to get more information!
