Edmonds UMC helped finance and build a garden at College Place Elementary School to teach families about gardening and how to make healthy eating choices. CPE was chosen because 80% of students are recipients of free/reduced lunch and the families comprise 23 ethnic dialects. Student families watered and ate from this garden all summer. Come tour the garden! decorate cookies and paint an autumn gourd! Questions? Contact Jennifer McLaughlin

There are over 600 families in Edmonds School District in who are in “transition”, meaning they are homeless or are on the brink of homelessness. Washington Kids in Transition helps these families avoid homelessness by helping pay utilities and rent, but once a family goes over the brink into homelessness WAKITS pays for a one-week motel stay while the family waits for low income housing to open up. EUMC now has a fund to provide one family a month with one week of motel housing at the Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. Your family could adopt a family for a week and deliver a pizza gift card the night they check into the motel followed by a bag of groceries during the week that they can cook at the motel. This is an easy service project that allows you to develop a deeper understanding of what families in our community are facing while offering a ministry of presence. Training provided.
